Icky Thump on CD has the worst mastering of anything you are likely to own. You don't have to have golden ears to notice it. In fact partial deafness may allow you to enjoy it more.
This "demaster" was referenced against a vinyl rip (hoffman) as a means of deciding on a final loudness level. You should turn the cd original down 4.7 db (yep - it's hurty loud!) and then try this. Disclaimer: this is provided for demonstration purposes only and you must own the original (
not much point of comparison if you don't is there?). No technical details of what I have done will be revealed at this stage - lets just say it more than just a simple attenuation. I have done the whole album and it has worked out well.
